MORE ARTICLES COMING SOON

While chiropractic has been used and loved for many years, research in the chiropractic profession is just beginning. Dr. Behrends believes in taking a research based approach to patient care, which maximizes patient outcomes and improves recovery times.

Flexion Distraction

Dr. Behrends utilizes a specific and specialized technique for low back pain, Flexion Distraction.  This technique has been shown to be effective at decreasing overall low back pain, increasing mobility in the low back, and improving overall tolerance for activity.  This study showed that those who utilized Flexion Distraction had greater relief of pain and those with radiculopathy showed greatest improvement.  This study also highlights the importance of in office treatments, such as Flexion Distraction, and combining them with exercises for greatest outcomes.

Article Conclusion: " Subjects randomly allocated to FD (Flexion Distraction) had significantly greater relief from perceived pain, as defined by VAS scores, than those in ATEP. ...  Subgroup analysis indicated that subjects categorized as chronic, with moderate to severe symptoms, and those with radiculopathy improved most with FD." (Gudavalli 2006)

Colicky Babies

Dr. Behrends believes proper spinal health is important to proper development.  An article published in "Frontier Pediatrics" highlights the importance of maintaining proper upper cervical muscular tone.  The study showed that babies who were adjusted/vibratory treatment in their upper cervical spine had less vestibular disturbance, and overall scored lower on a vestibular activity scale, and less colic like symptoms.

Article Conclusion: "Colicky babies are not just infants who cry a lot. They also show clinical evidence of vestibular dysregulation. Treatment aimed at relaxing tight sub-occipital musculature by means of gentle vibrational stimulation may be effective in decreasing vestibular hyperactivity, signifying an improvement in brainstem regulation. The vestibular index opens the prospect for development into a tool toward an objective and practical clinical diagnosis of infantile colic."  (Hoeve, 2021)

If your baby is experiencing colic like symptoms please give us a call to see if chiropractic care can help your baby.
